If you are not using Crashlytics in your Applications, you are missing out.
Hold it man. What the hell are you talking about? Do I really need it? Well according to Queen Obvious, all apps are bound to crash. Your work as a developer is to find the problem and fix it. You could always use the log cat to help you debug during development, but what happens when you publish your application to the store? No one likes apps that crash. It’s annoying. With that said, you need a way to get some information when your app crashes.
Crashlytics is a great tool that sends reports every time an app crashes. all you have to do is add a couple of magic lines of code to an app and that’s it – when an app crashes, you get a notification right away.
1. It’s Free.
Does it get any better? I mean, all those cool features and all you have to pay to access them is $0. 🙂 There are also enterprise features available as well.
2. Real-Time Alerts.
Incase it slipped away, one of the reasons I think Crashlytics is awesome is that you get real-time notifications/alerts.
3. Beta Distribution.
Of course there are other channels of distributing your application for beta testing. Crashlytics does not just makes beta distribution of your app easy, but super informative as well – you can monitor the activity of both your developers and your testers.
4. Integration to third party apps
It keeps on getting better. You can integrate crashlytics to Slack. I prefer if because I don’t have to keep on checking my mail and it other team membrs get to see what is happening as well.
As Crashlytics claims, it’s a “mobile app analytics you don’t need to analyze”.
Let’s have a look at what things look like.
A simple and straight forward dashboard.
Get to see how many users are affected by bugs in your application.
See what OS your users have. I find this pretty cool because it lets you know what cool features to add based on the version of the OS.
You are able to see how much time users are spending on your application.
It does not end there…. There is a lot more you can track using Crashlytics. It’s up to you.
Crashlytics will simply make your life easier when looking for those ugly crashes that keeps you awake at night, and your users happy too!
Setting it up is pretty simple. Check out the setup guide.
